World of Books: Liza + Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Everyone has their neighborhood bookstore or their local library they call home. Maybe both even. I know I do - in TWO different cities. World of Books if a bi-weekly feature that allows me - and any of YOU - to share the bookstores and libraries you love so much. If you want to be featured on World of Books too, make sure to go HERE and fill out the contact form!

This week on WORLD OF BOOKS, Liza's here to tell you all about the bookish places in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

We have over 25 libraries in the Milwaukee Public Library system and our interlibrary lending system is second to none. Order a book over the internet or from a Milwaukee CountyCat Mobile app from your phone or iPad. For more information, check out their website.

The Milwaukee Public Central Library. Some of our biggest author events take place here. The most recent one that I attended was with Libba Bray during her promotion of THE DIVINERS.

The North Shore Library is the closest Milwaukee Public Library branch to my house. Most likely, you'd find me in the YA section. One day, I accidentally bumped the books. Dominos!

They recently added the efficient book holders. But our YA area is so crammed with books, they're hoping to find a new location so that there can be a bigger YA section.

I have two favorite indie bookstores. The first is Boswell Book Company, and it's attached to a Starbucks. A perfect combination. Boswell's owner, Daniel Goldin, works with publishers to bring some of the best YA authors to Milwaukee and often arranges for them to go to local schools. Boswell Book Company is located on Milwaukee's East Side. For more information check out their website.

Buy a book, and then get your cup of coffee at Starbucks! These double doors separate Boswell's and Starbucks. Both spaces have plenty of places to sit, read, and sip.

This is where you can find me hanging out. The YA section!

Boswell's also is the place where many of us local YA bloggers/authors/librarians/teachers meet. This past summer, a group of us got together to discuss THE PROGRAM by Susanne Young. This picture is of Heidi from YA Bibliophile who organized the event and put together all these goodies!

The Renaissance Books is located at Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport. It has used and new books and you never know what you'll discover there. Whenever I need to go pick someone up at the airport, I go early to spend a few extra minutes browsing and often buying. But I have also been known to take a trip to the airport just to go to this bookstore. It's a great place to find a bookish treasure. For more information, check out Wikipedia.

In Bayshore Town Center, travel down the narrow streets and you'll find our local Barnes and Noble among numerous shops and lots of apartments. Of course, there's a Starbucks inside. Bayshore is located in the Milwaukee suburb, Glendale.

Just to give viewers some perspective, I took this photo through my side mirror. All street parking is metered. The good news is that they use all the money to fund college scholarships for local high school students. On weekends and during lunchtime, parking isn't easy to find, unless you go into one of the parking structures. But be prepared to take a stroll. For more information, check out the website.

So. Now I want to go to Milwaukee and go to all of the places and drink all of the tea with Liza. Wanna come with? Let me know in the comments below!
